Biggest news on photography world this month (August 2007.) Nikon has just introduced Nikon D3 and its sibling Nikon D300. Ready to drool? I bet, you will
Nikon D3 is a Full Frame digital camera, like Canon EOS-1Ds (!), and much more!
Here are the D3 feats (abridged):
- 12.1 effective Megapixel, full frame CMOS censor.
- New EXPEED image processor
- Magnesium alloy frame, weather-sealed, shutter lasts for 300,000 cycles
- 3″ LCD display with 920,000 pixels (!)
- 51-point autofocus system (15 cross-type and 36 horizontal sensors)
- Scene Recognition System, keeping focus, exposure, and white balance accurate the whole time
- Up to 20 NEF or 64 JPEGs in a row at 9 frames/second
- Normal ISO range of 200 - 6400; expandable to 100 - 25,600 (!)
- Active D-Lighting feature, brighten up a photo’s shadows during shooting
- “Virtual Horizon” feature on LCD makes photos are always level
- Dual CompactFlash slots, support UDMA, with 40MB/sec write speeds, user can have NEF on one card, JPEG on the other, same images on both cards, or fill second card when the first one full
- HDMI port (view photos in HD)
- Optional WT-4 wireless adapter
- Uses EN-EL4a lithium-ion battery

Nikon D300, holy cow! Exactly (!) the same like its big brother, the only differences are:
- 12.3 effective Megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor
- Dust reduction system, shake dust from the sensor
- Shutter lasts with 150,000 cycle shutter
- Shoot up to 100 JPEGs in a row at 6 frames/second
- Only one CompactFlash slot
- $1799, body only
Man, oh man, I own Nikon D70, better save money to upgrade it when the time has come!
